Coron Bay is
famous for the wrecks of a Japanese supply
fleet sunk by U.S. Navy war planes in
September 1944. Most of the wrecks are deep
enough to require Nitrox to maximize dive
time. The wrecks were stripped by the local
population many years ago. I dove these
wrecks in June of 2009. The visibility was
poor (30 feet or less). Underwater
photography both with and without a strobe
was very difficult due to the amount of
particulate matter in the water and the lack
of ambient light at depth. Staying at a
resort in Coron Town requires a 1.5 to 2
hour boat trip to and from the wrecks.
